As I learned English, adults in my family often put me to work writing various business and beaurocratic letters for them. I did not mind. I was happy to write, glad to know some idioms and social customs.
"What does this 'sincerely' mean," my mother asked me.
"Nothing," I said. "It's just a word you write at the end."
